Story: Dereck Coons is an accomplished luthier with over 20 years of experience crafting and restoring fine violins and cellos. Trained at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, he refined his craft through apprenticeships and international collaborations before returning to co-found Violin Shop Tampa in 2013. Through the years he has worked and collaborated with many world-class musicians, gaining a deep understanding of performers' needs. Guided by a philosophy that celebrates the individuality of each musician, Coons creates beautifully crafted instruments that reflect the unique voice and artistry of their players.  Coons won a Certificate of Merit for Tone at the 2022 Violin Society of America (VSA) International Violin Making Competition.
