Story: Violas crafted by Giovanni Battista Morassi (1934–2018) represent the pinnacle of modern Cremonese tradition. Born near Udine, he won a scholarship to study at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona (1951–55), where he trained under masters such as Giuseppe Ornati and Ferdinando Garimberti. In 1971, Morassi became Maestro Liutaio and led the school until his retirement in 1983. His instruments blend classical Cremonese design with a refined personal style influenced by the Milanese school—recognized for flowing outlines, subtle varnish tones, and expert handling of tonewood. Morassi was also a respected educator and mentor: he co-founded the Associazione Liuteria Italiana, served as juror in international competitions, and trained a generation of luthiers whose influence extends worldwide.
