Maker: Kurt Arno Gütter

Story: Kurt Arno Gütter (1894–1991) was a distinguished German luthier from Markneukirchen, a region renowned for its violin-making heritage. He apprenticed under Oskar Bernhard Heinel and refined his craft through work with established firms, including Heinrich Theodor Heberlein in Berlin. In 1921, Gütter founded his own workshop in Markneukirchen, where he created consistently high-quality instruments modeled after Stradivari and Guarneri traditions. Known for their bright, clear tonal palette and strong projection, Gütter’s violins remain highly regarded among soloists and chamber musicians alike. His meticulous attention to tonal refinement and structural elegance spanned a career that lasted into the late 20th century.

Tone and Character: This Kurt Gütter violin delivers a rich and bold sound, with impressive projection and a commanding presence across all registers. Its tonal depth is striking, offering a wide spectrum of colors that respond beautifully to both subtle nuance and bold expression. The lower register is dark and resonant, while the upper strings sing with clarity and brilliance. Designed to carry over orchestral textures, this instrument will be particularly appreciated by soloists and advanced performers seeking to fill large halls with power and elegance. Its tonal flexibility makes it equally at home in solo repertoire and dynamic ensemble work.

Overview: Following the Stradivari model, this Kurt Gütter violin features stunning craftsmanship and a refined visual aesthetic. The warm amber-brown varnish enhances the natural figure of the flamed maple back and finely grained spruce top, while elegant arching and clean purfling reflect the precision of traditional Markneukirchen work. With its powerful voice, refined detail, and exceptional responsiveness, this violin presents an outstanding option for serious musicians looking for depth, clarity, and expressive range in a well-built European instrument.

Condition: This violin is in excellent condition. Naturally occurring antiquing of the varnish is visible on the upper right rib, along with some aesthetic wear on the corners.
