Maker: Jordan Hess
Story: Jordan Hess, a violin maker from Indiana, began his craft at age nine. After apprenticing at Indianapolis Violins, studying at the Violin Making School of America, and working with Salt Lake City based luthier John Young, he now specializes in violins built using traditional Cremonese methods. His designs, based on a proportional system he developed, include geometric replicas of Stradivari, Amati, and Guarneri molds, as well as original models, prioritizing exceptional tonal quality and playability with tonal ranges from warm and colorful to rich and powerful.
Tone and Character: This violin offers an exceptionally balanced and consistent tone, with a warm, round quality that resonates effortlessly. A subtle harmonic sparkle adds depth and articulation to the projection, maintaining its character and clarity up the length of the fingerboard. The midtones are well-balanced, enriching the core of the sound, while the E string brings a focused, chewy quality that enhances its clarity and presence. Delicate overtones add nuance without overpowering the sound, offering elegant versatility and blending.
Overview: The Jordan Hess Violin is beautifully antiqued with a rich, red toned varnish layered over a muted blonde base complemented with boxwood fittings. The one-piece maple back stands out with a unique flaming. This instrument is an excellent example of the “playability” Jordan Hess’s designs are known for, sitting comfortably in the hand and delivering a sensitive response under the bow. With its exceptional balance, consistency and warmth, the individual yet easy-to-blend tone stands out as an ideal choice for the professional ensemble player or anyone looking to add a warmer depth to their voice.
Condition: This instrument is in mint condition.
